There’s that old saying, “They don’t make things like they used to” that I’ll here express an appreciation for being true.
We walked through the old house looking for things to salvage and incorporate into the new house: door hardware, doors, structural timbers, stone work, wood flooring etc. and nothing seemed to be worthwhile except the leaded glass panes in the old windows.
With the help of a pry bar and hammer – we took to the old wood frames and removed eight windows with six panes each. It seemed they would make a cool pair of French doors or something.
It took the glass expert about 10 seconds to convince us that whether he used heat or a chisel on the aged putty the result would be the same – broken glass.
No regrets…we had a lot of fun taking out the old windows.
