Running Water, Inspections and Insulation

September 17, 2014

Home Construction

I found out yesterday first hand that the water is flowing within the house.  While in the laundry room talking things over with Rick, I reached out and turned the hot water valve for what will supply the washing machine.  Imagine my surprise when in my gut I felt the blast of water hit me…

So now…we have electricity and water…and the village inspector is happy with the work of our electricians (Dan and Al) and plumbers (Kevin).  With that ‘blessing’ we’re now ready to begin insulating the house.

In other areas, the plumbers installed (via winch) the cast iron tub in the basement while the low-voltage guys placed drywall templates marking the future location of the in-wall speakers.

Meanwhile, the masons have enjoyed a very nice week of weather in which to work and have made great progress on the brick and sills.  According to Rick, there is more stone ordered…we’re just a little late on the delivery thereof.  We also (finally) found someone to construct the particular door we want…

Once the bricky’s are done working we’ll likely be able to grade the lot…something that will be helpful when the wet autumn weather arrives.  To that end, Anne and I are meeting with the landscape architect tomorrow at lunch to review what he came up with.
