Starting to Feel Like Home

Home Construction

Well – the drywall installers have just about hung all of the sheetrock.  With that, it looks like a house…except without furniture.  Or A/C.  Or paint.  Or flooring.  Okay – it looks like an grayish, empty house…but we really are getting an idea of what the rooms truly ‘feel’ like and that’s an(other) exciting step forward.

The HVAC guys installed the MBR fireplace and ductwork for the garage heater.

On the exterior, NICOR is coming Monday to give us a gas meter and shortly thereafter the furnace will be installed and turned on.  The drywallers are very happy as the warm, dry air will help dry their mud.

Also on the exterior, Erich and his stucco artists have been making great progress…several coats of different mixtures and use of additives and texturing  really gave us an appreciation for their artistry.   We’re right now trying to find more applications for their work…maybe in the interior?

Anne and I today drove to Richmond, IL and selected the granite for the: bazaar, girls’ bathrooms and basement bathroom.  Fortunately for us, the girls approved our selections for their respective rooms.

On the way to Richmond driving through Hainesville we stopped by the ‘first’ house we built.  It was a fun little homecoming.  We laughed at ourselves each being the first-born and refusing to consider ‘hand-me-down’ houses.
