Parting Shots

Away from Home

After flying in just one week ago for a fun-filled, fleet-footed, family romp through Firenze … the time to bid, “ARRIVEDERCI” to Maddie and Blake arrived all too quickly. And so it was done. At 4:20am Saturday morning the driver escorted the zombie-walking and Flo-filled couple with their overstuffed suitcases into the minibus thereby reducing our pseudo-Italian Famiglia quintet to a trio.

As our loyal blog readers likely expected, Anne and I were ‘made whole’ with the Full Fam Dam joined together for the first time since mid-January. The kids’ visit was perfectly timed as Anne and I were comfortably settled into La Vida Fiorentini and missing them dearly. Anne didn’t even object to the notion of doing a couple more loads of laundry in our under-powered and under-sized washer/dryer !!

In addition to restorative hugs+kisses, eyeball-to-eyeball conversations, shared meals, urban hiking and basking in our chillun’s glowing countenances; we also missed the groupspeak nuances like: spontaneous crosstalk, silence breaking chatter, silly giggles, loving pokes, inside jokes, sudden interruptions and the one-eared eavesdropping that comes with a lively and loving family gathering. It literally felt all week like we were gathered around the kitchen island on a Sunday afternoon chatting away.

While Hannah remains in Italia for another week with the P’s, we have all these great pics to share and recall those days in March 2022 when Sis and Blake crashed the Villa Merlo Nero.

This kitchen ain’t big enough for two ladles much less these two culinary behemoths-in-their-own-minds… but we made it work in order to feed the fam panini and roasted veggies before departing for our road trip to Montalcino.

Remember that post of Anne and I climbing the Palazzo Vecchio Torre to get this picture? We did it again. 283 steps.

Maddie remembered several of the most important things about Firenze. The gelaterria on Via dei Neri is among the Top 3.

This is Romeo. He’s a big ol’ Yellow Lab at Le Potazzine winery. Everybody loves Romeo.

Blake and Maddie out in the vineyards.

Hannah preferred the more contemplative perspective of the vineyard while Maddie and Blake got their shoes dirty.

Tasting at Frescobaldi. The HEALTHIEST pours at a tasting I’ve EVER HAD!

<nothing to add to this>

This picture of our wine-tasting trio isn’t fuzzy or out of focus. But they may be.

Not sure what’s happening here… but there’s a real synergy between these two when we travel. Usually, Hannah steps in something and Anne breaks out the wipes from her “Mary Poppins” bag.

Romeo and friend.

Anne and Hannah crossed paths on their morning walks and took this pic. Actually, Hannah runs and Anne walks almost as fast!!

Chianti in Gaiole at Sunset. Lovely.

The whole Fam Dam.

Ciao!! ❤️❤️🇮🇹😊😊
